Early Life and Education
Man Mohan Adhikari was born in in Lazimpat village, Kathmandu Valley.
He grew up in Biratnagar and left for Varanasi, British India, in to pursue his education. During his studies in , Adhikari participated in the "Quit India" movement and was arrested by British colonial authorities. He spent a total of 17 years in various prisons for political reasons throughout his life.
Involvement in the Communist Movement
While in India, Adhikari became involved in the communist movement and joined the Communist Party of India.
Upon returning to Nepal, he emerged as a labor leader in Biratnagar. In , he was arrested and sentenced to three years in prison for organizing a strike in a jute mill.
